In this first adventure, he is pitted against Nazis commissioned by Hitler to recover artifacts of great power from the Old Testament (see Nazi archaeology). He studied under the Egyptologist and archaeologist Abner Ravenwood at the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago. His research is funded by Marshall College (a fictional school named after producer Frank Marshall), where he is a professor of archaeology.
